Men’s Basketball Goes for Another Road Win Thursday at Portland

PORTLAND – Looking to win its second consecutive road game, the Pacific men's basketball program for a 7 p.m. game Thursday against Portland at the Chiles Center.
 
Pacific (6-14, 1-5 WCC) knocked off Washington State 95-94 in overtime in its last road game. The Cougars entered the game 7-0 at home.
 
Junior Lamar Washington, who will be playing in his hometown of Portland on Thursday, went on to win West Coast Conference Player of the Week on Monday. He poured in a career-high 40 points including a game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer. Washington played all 45 minutes and was the first Tiger to score 40 points in a single game in nearly seven years.
 
Washington was 16-of-22 from the field and 4-of-6 from three and more-than doubled his previous career-high of 19 points. He followed it up with 13 points Saturday against Oregon State. On the week, Washington averaged 26.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game last week and was 21-of-33 (.636) from the floor and 5-of-9 (.556) from beyond the arc.
 
Washington became the first Tiger to win WCC Player of the Week since Keylan Boone on Jan. 9, 2023, over two years ago.
 
On the season, Pacific has been led by the Canadian duo of senior Elias Ralph and junior Elijah Fisher, who both score over 16 points per game, and each have scored in double-figures in 19 of 20 contests. In conference, Fisher tallies 16.7 points per game and is shooting .583 from the field.
 
Fisher ranks sixth in the country in free throws made with 103 and seventh in the nation in free throw attempts with 135. He's 24th in scoring average, while Ralph is 26th.
 
Ralph records 16.1 points and 7.0 rebounds per game and shoots .504 from the floor, which ranks fourth in the WCC. Ralph also ranks fourth in the league in offensive rebounding with 2.5 per outing.
 
Portland (5-13, 0-5 WCC) is going for its first league win but has been close in several games, including an 81-72 defeat at San Francisco in its last outing.
 
Austin Rapp leads the team with 13.9 points and 6.4 rebounds per game and ranks 45th in the nation in free throw percentage (.887) and 54th in defensive rebounding (5.94 drpg). Of his 168 field goal attempts, 117 have been three-pointers where he shoots at a .376 clip.
 
It's the only game of the week for the Tigers, who return home Thursday, Jan. 23 to host LMU at 7 p.m. at the Alex G. Spanos Center. Pacific is 807-458 all-time at home and 344-225 in the Spanos Center.
 
NOTES
- Pacific is 29-17 all-time against Portland.
 
- The Tigers are looking to win consecutive road games for the first time since 2022-23 when they knocked off San Diego 84-82 and Pepperdine 80-75.
 
- Washington ranks seventh in the country in total assists with 120 and top-20 in assists per game with 6.0. He also scores in double-figures with 12.7 points per game including 15.8 in conference.
 
- Pacific has matched its season win total from last year and surpassed its conference win total.
 
- In all six of Pacific's wins this year, the team has outscored the opposition in the paint.
