SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Pacific men's soccer team will head up the I-5 interstate for a road match against Sacramento State Sunday at 4 p.m. at Hornet Field.
The Tigers (2-2-1) resume action after nearly two weeks of training and preparation, looking ahead to facing their fourth consecutive Big West opponent in the Hornets (3-4).
"We are excited to get back on the pitch against Sacramento State," head coach
Adam Reeves said. "While our last match ended in disappointment, we have been able to identify some key areas to improve and really focus on development over these last 13 days."
Fifth year
Vinzent Zingel leads the charge offensively for Pacific. The native of Aachen, Germany has two goals on three shots on target.
Junior
Jose Maria Barrera has also been a force up front, firing a team-high nine shots on goal to go with a goal in a 1-0 win over UC Davis in Pacific's season opener.
Senior
Joshua Moya brings a steady presence in net, owning a 2-2-1 record with 0.80 GAA, a .875 save percentage and 28 saves. The Gilroy, California native has also registered three shutouts, which ranks first in the West Coast Conference.
Moya stands among the nation's top 30 in saves per game (6.40), shutouts and save percentage.
Junior
Luca Baltzer and senior
Emmanuel Obiefuna have played every minute so far through five games this season. Baltzer collected his first assist as a Tiger on Barrera's goal in the home opener.
Sacramento State opened up its season with four straight losses but have bounced back with wins over WCC members San Francisco, Saint Mary's and Santa Clara.
Sunday's meeting between the Tigers and Hornets marks the tenth time the two programs go head-to-head. Pacific owns a 1-1-2 record all-time on the road in the state's capital. The last two matchups resulted in draws (1-1 in 2022 and 0-0 in 2019).
The game will be broadcasted live on ESPN+ with a 4 p.m. kick-off.
