LODI Calif. - Coming off a runner up finish at the Big Wave Invitational, the Pacific cross country team hosts its Pacific Invitational at Micke Grove on Friday at 6:15 p.m.
Â
The men's 8k begins prior to the women's 6k, starting at 5:30 p.m. The event features 18 men's and women's programs from all over California, including three West Coast Conference institutions that will grab first looks at the league's championship site for 2024. The Tigers return to Micke Grove at the end of the season to host the WCC Championships.Â
Â
Running this year alongside Pacific on the women's side are Clovis Community College, Dominican, LMU, Pepperdine, San Francisco, Saint Mary's, Stanford, UC Davis and UC Merced. The men race the same aside for Pacific and LMU.
Â
Pacific will field 10 runners, including junior
Emily Wernli who grabbed a top-10 finish in Hawai'i at the start of September. The team finished seventh overall as four runners clocked personal bests in Pacific's marquee event a season ago.
Â
Back to lead the Tigers this season are returners
Anahi Avila Perez and
Emma Kaufman. The pair had the top finishes in last year's race of the returners, as Avila Perez crossed with a 24:07.70 and Kaufman a 24:21.60.
Â
Also aiding the Tigers are seniors
Sophia Livingston and
Dalee Higgins, who each grabbed spots in the top-15 in the Big Wave Invitational the first week of September.
