STOCKTON, Calif. -Â Following a 1-0 shutout victory by the Pacific men's soccer team over UC Davis, senior goalkeeper
Joshua Moya was named West Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
Â
"Josh was a big part of our win to open the season on Thursday," Pacific head coach
Adam Reeves said. "One save in particular midway through the second half allowed us to keep the lead. Early in the season, where we may not have been at our sharpest, goalkeepers may be called upon to help keep us in the game. Josh was ready and came up huge."
Â
Moya becomes the first Tiger to earn WCC Defensive Player of the Week since 2021 when Eric Cotton earned the honor.
Â
Moya recorded his third career clean sheet, totaling a career-high 10 saves against the Aggies. The native of Gilroy, California collected the most saves in the WCC following his opening night performance.
Â
"We are so proud of Josh and his accomplishments," Reeves said. "He's a self-made starter. Since day one, he has maximized his opportunity and earned everything. I also want to recognize assistant coach
David Elias and the tremendous job he does with our goalkeepers. They are a committed and driven group that has developed under his leadership. Once again, we are very proud of Josh."
Â
Moya and the Tigers turn their attention to tonight's contest at Missouri State, beginning at 5 p.m. at Betty & Bobby Allison South Stadium.
