STOCKTON, Calif. - The Pacific women's soccer team kicks off the 2024 season against Houston Christian on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Knoles Field.
"We are really excited to be opening up against Houston Christian this week," Pacific co-head coach
Danesha Adams said. "It's been a good preseason, and the group is ready to get after it. Let the games begin!"
The Tigers will look to continue its strong play in non-conference action, carrying over a 14-match unbeaten non-conference home streak into 2024.
"Opening night of the fall season is special every year and being able to play the first match of the season at home is something our players are really looking forward to," co-head coach
J.J. Wozniak said. "Our team loves playing at Knoles Field and they can't wait to take the field on Thursday night!"
Pacific and Houston Christian meet for the first time in their respective program histories on Thursday. The Tigers play at home for four of their first five contests while the Huskies begin their season with four straight road games.
Pacific was picked to finish in a tie for eighth place in the West Coast Conference preseason coaches poll with 38 points alongside conference newcomer Oregon State.
Houston Christian's Alexa Huerta and Olivia Rossman were first team selections while Emily Jaimes picked up second team recognition on the Southland Conference Women's Soccer Preseason All-Conference teams. The Huskies finished the 2023 season with a 7-11 overall record, including a 2-5 road record. Houston Christian head coach Nick Whiting enters his first season at the helm of the program after two seasons as the associate head coach at Western Carolina.
Last year, Pacific battled to a 4-4 tie against UC San Diego in the team's home opener. In that contest, current Tigers
Alexis Pashales and
Haley Johnson scored goals.
Pashales returns as Pacific's leading scorer on the team with seven goals and 17 points in 2023. Sophomore
Libby Davy made the bulk of the starts in goal for the Tigers last year, starting 13 games. Davy grabbed 54 saves and maintained a .643 save percentage during her freshman season.
The match will be streamed on ESPN+. There is free admission to watch the contest at Knoles Field.
