Men's Tennis Cheers for Court Five

Winning Tigers Host Crucial Conference Matches Against Portland, No. 13 San Diego

STOCKTON, Calif.- The Pacific men's tennis team continues its push for a conference title as two critical matches lie in store for the Tigers this weekend. The Tigers host Portland on Saturday, April 6 at 2 p.m. and No. 13 San Diego on Sunday, April 7 at 1:30 p.m. at the Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center.

Students in attendance will receive free pizza at both matches.

The Tigers tacked on two more wins to their ongoing winning streak over the weekend, climbing to 11 match victories in a row. The team hasn't faced a loss since January and possess the longest active winning streak in the West Coast Conference. They downed UC Riverside in a 7-0 sweep before capturing their second conference win of the season in a 4-2 victory over LMU.

Senior Peter Alam paves the way for the Tigers, posting an unblemished 8-0 singles record this season. He is 4-0 from court two, while also remaining unbeaten on courts one and three. The Tigers as a collective are 54-17 in singles on the season.

Senior Ran Amar improved to 10-1 after adding two more wins to his now nine singles match unbeaten streak. His match clinching victory from court five over LMU tied the overall series 5-5 since Pacific rejoined the WCC in 2013.

Alam, alongside doubles partner junior Justas Trainauskas, rank No. 53 in the nation as a doubles team. The pair haven't lost since January and hold a 7-1 record on court one this season.

The Tigers are in pursuit of their first win over the Pilots since 2019. Since rejoining the league in 2013, Pacific trails the series match record 5-6, but are 4-1 at home over the Pilots since 2014. Portland is currently third in the conference standings, holding a 3-1 record in WCC matches. The Tigers are tied first with No. 13 San Diego.

The team will go for its first ever conference win over the Toreros since it re-started WCC play in 2014. While San Diego leads the all-time series, the Tigers last defeated the Toreros 4-3 in 2010 in a neutral site match.
