BRADENTON, Fla.- The No. 56 Pacific men's tennis team extends its memorable season with an appearance in the UTR Sports NIT Championship, as announced by UTR Sports this afternoon. The Tigers are one of eight teams selected for the championship set for May 5-8 at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.
After finishing tied for third in the WCC Tournament, the Tigers head to their first postseason tournament since 2004. They join Tulsa, Liberty, Northwestern, North Alabama, Eastern Kentucky, St. Louis and fellow conference mate Santa Clara as part of the eighth team field.
The NIT enters its second year of existence after hosting its inaugural championship a season ago, allowing some of the best programs in the nation to participate in a postseason. The top-eight teams are selected by the committee with UTR Power 6 rankings a top metric for consideration. Per the rankings, the Tigers are No. 2 in the field.
The men's quarterfinal kicks off the event on Sunday, May 5. Following typical knockout rounds, the teams play standard dual matches with doubles played first followed by singles.
