SAN FRANCISCO – The Pacific baseball team dropped the series finale to San Francisco, 10-1, on Sunday afternoon at Benedetti Diamond.
The Tigers (8-35, 3-12 WCC) collected two doubles and spoiled the shutout bid late while the Dons (19-25, 3-12 WCC) did most of their damage in the middle of the contest to secure the victory.
Sophomore
Tony Otis went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run scored. Otis has scored 12 runs in his last ten games.
Senior
Chase Graves recorded the other double for Pacific, extending his hitting streak to five games. Graves turned in a phenomenal weekend at the plate against the Dons, going 7-for-11 with three doubles, three runs scored and two RBIs.
Sophomore
Ryan Martinez made the start on the mound for the Tigers, pitching 3.0 innings and allowing two earned runs on four hits while striking out two batters. Freshman
Regan Carter dealt a clean inning in a relief appearance, going 1.0 inning and allowing no runs on one hit.
After two scoreless frames to begin the game, USF struck first in the bottom of the third inning, scoring twice and taking a 2-0 lead. The Dons added to their advantage in the bottom of the fourth inning, crossing home plate five times with the aid of six free passes.
The home team scored two more in the bottom of the fifth and one more after the seventh inning stretch to extend the lead to 10-0.
Pacific was able to break the shutout opportunity in the top of the ninth as sophomore
Jake Tandy collected his team-leading 31st RBI on a sacrifice fly that brought home Otis for the 10-1 final score.
Up next, the Tigers return to action at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, traveling for their midweek matchup to face CSU Bakersfield at Hardt Field.
