History Made, Tigers Advance After Sweeping Pilots

SAN DIEGO, Calif.- The Pacific women's tennis team captured its first ever win in the WCC Tournament after making the six team field for the first time since returning to the conference in 2013. The Tigers grabbed their second win of the year over Portland in the 4-0 sweep in the first round.

The Tigers quickly made adjustments, having met the Pilots in Portland a week ago. After losing the doubles point in the regular season, the Tigers flipped the script, clinching the point from courts one and two.

The Pilots struck first in doubles after taking court three, but fifth year senior captain Klara Kosan and junior Tomi Main rattled off a 6-2 win from court one. Junior Alexis Sam and freshman Milena Maiorova secured the point after taking the tiebreaker 7(7)-6(0).

Kosan struck first in singles, taking the rematch against Portland's Iva Zelic 6-2, 6-0. Fellow fifth year senior Zoe Clydesdale-Eberle maintained the shutout after downing Meagan Pearson 6-3, 6-1 from court six, while Maiorova secured the sweep behind a 6-2, 6-3 decision over Rimona Rouf on court five.

The Tigers advance to the semifinal where they'll face San Diego. The two teams didn't meet in the regular season and have only met once on a neutral court since 2014. The Toreros went 15-6 this year posting a 5-1 record in conference matches, falling only to conference champion Pepperdine.

The winner of tomorrow's match advances to Saturday's final set for 2 p.m. where they meet the winner of Pepperdine/LMU. Pacific's semifinal is set for tomorrow at 1:30 pm.
