STOCKTON, Calif.- The Pacific men's tennis team drew the WCC's three-seed after finishing with a 5-3 conference record and 16-4 overall record this season. The Tigers take on Portland in the first round, with the match set for Thursday, April 25 at 10 a.m. at the Aztec Tennis Center in San Diego.
Pacific's match kicks off the three day tournament, with action lasting from Thursday, April 25 to Saturday, April 27. The championship match is set for Saturday at 10 a.m.
The Tigers are led behind All-WCC Singles First Team member senior
Peter Alam. The senior captain holds a 12-3 record this season playing from the top of the lineup. He rattled off an 11-0 start to the season, going two months without a singles match loss. Alongside his doubles partner, junior
Justas Trainauskas, the pair earned All-WCC Doubles First Team after a 9-4 season together. The duo spent nearly four months ranked in the ITA.
The Tigers hold a .710 singles winning percentage this season. With Alam, sophomore
Tiago Silva received recognition from the conference. Silva was 13-5 this season, while holding a 9-1 record from court three. Fellow sophomore,
Terence Das, captured a 13-3 record, combining for 10 wins between courts three and four.
Senior
Andre Rodeia was the final of four Tigers with double digit singles wins on the year. He posted a 7-4 record playing primarily from court six. He ended the season on a three match winning streak.
It's the first time since 2018 that the Tigers have secured a spot in the tournament. The Tigers went 2-3 in their last five matches after defeating San Diego at home the first week of April, reaching a historic 14-match winning streak in that time span. Since falling to the Tigers at the beginning of April, the Pilots have been on a four match losing skid after going through the gauntlet of the conference's nationally ranked teams.
Pacific downed the Pilots in the regular season 4-1 at the Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center, rattling off wins on three singles courts after cruising to the doubles point. It was Pacific's first win over Portland since 2019 as the Pilots took both matches in 2022 and 2023.
The Tigers moved to a 4-5 series record in conference against the Pilots dating back to 2013. Since then, Pacific is 2-1 on a neutral court, last defeating the Pilots in 2015 at the WCC tournament.
Pacific is undefeated on a neutral court this season, holding a 3-0 record. Conversely, the Pilots are 0-1 in their lone neutral site match this season. Should the Tigers advance, they face Pepperdine for a rematch of their regular season finale. The Waves clinched the first round bye after defeating the Tigers 4-3.
The winner of Pepperdine vs. Pacific/Portland advances to Saturday's final. San Diego grabbed the No. 1 seed and sit on the opposite side of the bracket after grabbing a first round bye.
