STOCKTON, Calif.- The Pacific softball team captured three of the four conference games against San Diego over the weekend, as the Toreros took game four 9-0 behind a perfect game to avoid the Tigers series sweep.
"Not a great game to finish the series," head coach
Brian Kolze shared after the game. "Sweeping a four game series might be the hardest thing in all of sports. Keeping that in perspective, we need to flush away this last game and look at the overall positive outcome of the entire weekend. I thought our pitching staff did a tremendous job this entire weekend, but congrats to [San Diego's] Tadlock, as she constantly challenged us with great success today."
After leaping out to the 3-0 series lead, the Toreros dug their heels in for the final game to shutout the Tigers through five innings. San Diego got to scoring early, putting up two runs in the first. The Tigers shut them down shortly after, but a flurry of San Diego scoring in the final inning put the Tigers in too great of a hole. The Toreros ripped back to back home runs to go up 7-0 to start off the fifth inning, before adding two more runs. As Kelsey Tadlock locked up the final three outs, San Diego took the game 9-0.
The Tiger offense was stumped through all five innings, unable to manufacture scoring opportunities and break through Tadlock's grip defensively. The Torero went the full game without allowing a hit or a run.
Pacific moves to 4-4 in league games this season. The team earned its second shutout of the year in game three against the Toreros. The Tigers' three wins in a row over the Toreros was the most by a team since 2018, when Pacific earned the three game sweep at home. The Tigers turned the tables in the series after the weekend, as San Diego had claimed the last seven games.
Next up, Pacific heads out on the road for a four game stretch against LMU from Friday, April 26 through Sunday, April 28.
