Tigers Nearly Complete Comeback in High-Scoring Series Finale

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific baseball team tied its season-high in runs, but ultimately fell short in its comeback pursuit to LMU, 13-11, on Sunday afternoon at Klein Family Field.

The Tigers (7-32, 2-10 WCC) were able to get the tying run on base in the bottom of the ninth inning, but the Lions (17-24, 4-11 WCC) shut the door with a strikeout and sealed the series victory.

Freshman Gabe Camacho recorded his first career four-hit game and the second four-hit game by a Tiger this season. Sophomore Tony Otis went 2-for-3 at the plate, hitting a triple and a three-run home run in the late stages of the contest. Senior Chase Graves collected his first three-hit game of the season, collecting a two-RBI double, two singles and a run scored.

Redshirt junior Josh Souza earned the start for the Tigers on the mound, going 3.0 innings and allowing four earned runs (six total runs) on three hits while striking out one batter.

The Lions scored the game's first dozen runs, scoring two runs in the top of the first, four runs on a grand slam in the top of the third, one run in the top of the fourth and five runs in the top of the fifth.

The Tigers responded by scoring a season-high of runs in one inning with eight Tigers crossing home plate in the bottom of the fifth inning, cutting the deficit to 12-8. Sophomore Rylan Evans hit a three-run home run – his second home run of the season – that contributed to Pacific's scoring in the frame.

LMU got one run back, scoring on a wild pitch in the top of the eighth to make the score 13-8.

With their final opportunity in the bottom of the ninth, Otis continued his impressive weekend at the plate, crushing the Tigers' second three-run homer of the day, bringing Pacific within two runs. Camacho and Graves hit back-to-back singles following the Otis big fly, resulting in the tying runner reaching base. Pacific had to two chances to send the Tiger fans home happy, but unfortunately could not complete the comeback and fell 13-11.

The Tigers return to action at 6 p.m. on Tuesday against California at Klein Family Field.
