No. 20 Pacific Ends Regular Season with Win at CUI

IRVINE, Calif. – No. 20 Pacific women's water polo closed out the regular season with a 12-7 victory against Concordia Irvine on Saturday at William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center.

With the win, Pacific is the No. 3 seed in the Golden Coast Conference Championship.

Sophomore Dora Alaksza was the Tigers' leading scorer with six points on five goals and one assist. Junior Hila Futorian and freshman Ella Cowan notched two goals each.

Freshman goalkeeper Maja Lizy Dulic finished with another double figure saves performance after making 11 stops in net.

"Today was a good win for us," head coach Candice Vorbeck said. "We played well even with a few missing pieces and played in a very non-selfish and team-oriented way, defensively. We did a great job of adapting throughout the game and keeping our composure when it felt a bit close."

Pacific (15-9, 4-3) jumped out to a 3-0 start. Junior Addison McGowan scored the first goal followed by Futorian who contributed back to back points. CUI (11-21, 0-7 GCC) got within one before Alaksza and teammate Ilyana Zlobinsky notched goals to put the team up 5-2 at the end of the first period.

The Golden Eagles edged the Tigers 3-2 in the second to make it a two-point game at halftime, 7-5.

Both teams posted one goal apiece in the third quarter before Pacific outscored CUI 4-1 to pull away and seal the win. Alaksza and Cowan registered two apiece in the final 10 minutes.

"The team started the game hard," Alaksza said. "Even though our structure fell apart a little in the middle two quarters, we brought it back and finished the game confidently."

Up next, Pacific plays No. 6 Azusa Pacific in the opening round of the GCC Championship at 10 a.m. on Friday. The championship will take place at Sullivan Aquatic Center at Santa Clara.
