STOCKTON, Calif. – Sophomore
Tony Otis launched a walk-off home run high into the night sky to lift the Pacific baseball team to a 4-3 victory over LMU in 10 innings on Saturday night at Klein Family Field.
Otis and sophomore
Andre Vidal each hit their first home runs of the season for the Tigers (7-31, 2-9 WCC).
"I really wanted to win it for us," Otis said. "I took a slider inside and then he threw it again and I hit the ball out. It was a really close game. It's fun to play that way and I'm happy that we came out on top."
With his family in attendance, junior
Jakob Guardado turned in a quality start and his longest outing of the year, pitching 6.0 innings and allowing just one earned run on six hits while striking out three hitters.
"It felt really good to bounce back," Guardado said. "I attacked the zone and let my defense work."
The Tigers struck first in the bottom of the second inning as Vidal homered deep to left field for his first of two run-producing hits on the night.
Both starting pitchers were dealing in the zone and throwing up zeroes on the board until the top of the sixth when the Lions knotted up the game at 1-1 with an RBI double. Pacific responded immediately and took a 2-1 lead as Otis' nimbleness on a wild pick-off attempt allowed him to score from second base.
The Tigers tacked on another run on an RBI single from Vidal, increasing their lead to 3-1.
LMU was able to tie the game up in the top of the eighth inning on a two-run home run, but the Tigers brought their hero up to the plate in the bottom of the tenth inning. Otis touched them all on a deep drive to left field to secure the walk-off 4-3 victory.
For the second time this season, the Tigers delivered a walk-off home run at home. Freshman
Gabe Camacho crushed a walk-off home run against Sacramento State on March 20 to nab a 3-2 win.
The Tigers seek the series win in the rubber match at 1 p.m. tomorrow, wrapping up the three-game series against the Lions.
