Late Rally Not Enough in Loss to Aggies

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific baseball team put up a spirited effort late in the contest, but ultimately fell to UC Davis, 12-6, on Wednesday night at Klein Family Field.

The Tigers (6-30, 1-8 WCC) outhit the Aggies (17-17, 5-7 Big West), but a pair of three-run home runs helped propel the visitors in their offensive outburst early.

Freshman Gabe Camacho and sophomore Tony Otis collected multi-hit performances while sophomore Jack Metcho went 1-for-3 with two walks, two runs scored and an RBI.

Freshman Regan Carter made his second start of the season, pitching 1.1 innings and allowing four runs on three hits. Sophomore Ryan Martinez threw well in relief for the Tigers, going 5.0 innings and allowing three runs on three hits while striking out a career-high seven batters.

The Aggies jumped out in front on a sacrifice fly to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Sophomore Andrew Sloan knotted up the game at 1-1 with an RBI single for his sixth RBI of the season.

UC Davis put up runs in each of the next three innings, scoring three in the top of the second, four in the top of the third and three in the top of the fourth to take an 11-1 lead.

After throwing up a couple of zeroes on the board to the visitors, the Tigers found their groove offensively, scoring five times in the bottom of sixth inning to cut into the Aggies' lead, 11-6.

The Tigers had more chances in the late stages of the ball game but could not cross home. UC Davis scored one more run in the top of the ninth on a sacrifice fly to cap the final score at 12-6 in favor of the visitors.

Pacific returns to action at 6 p.m. on Friday for the start of a three-game series against LMU. Friday's game will conclude with the Tigers' first of two Fireworks Nights this season.
