STOCKTON, Calif.- The Pacific women's tennis team hosted its first home match of the season against Sacramento State on Thursday afternoon and though the Tigers led 3-2, they couldn't edge out the Hornets and fell 4-3.
The Tigers (3-4, 0-1 WCC) opened the day down 1-0 after the Hornets (8-3) clinched the doubles point They battled back to a 1-1 tie after junior
Liza Mladentseva defeated Elena Mercioiu 6-2, 6-2. Sacramento State responded with a win on court three to reclaim the lead.
Freshman
Indiya McLeod stood strong in her opening set, claiming it 7(1)-6 over Reese Walker before moving to a 6-0 second set win to tie the match 2-2. Junior
Tomi Main gave Pacific its first lead of the evening after a hard earned win on court two. Like McLeod, Main broke through the first set tie before garnering the 6-0 second set win.
The match came down to courts five and one, with freshman
Milena Maiorova and senior
Klara Kosan battling back after first set losses. Though they each took their respective second sets, Maiorova and Kosan weren't able to put away the third set and the Tigers fell 4-3.
Pacific returns on Saturday morning for an 11 a.m. contest against Nevada at the Eve Zimmerman Tennis.
