Tigers Fall to No. 8 Stanford

STANFORD, Calif.- The Pacific softball team pursued its first road win of the season and first ranked upset since 2016 traveling to No. 8 Stanford for a midweek contest, but the Cardinal stood strong and maintained their perfect home record, defeating Pacific 8-0.

The Tigers offense was stumped by the Cardinal despite a low scoring affair in the first two innings. Senior Scarlett Lloyd led the Tigers with one hit in two at bats, while sophomore Olivia Silvestre drew a walk. Though the Tigers got on base a few times, Stanford quickly clamped down defensively, not allowing a run through five innings.

Graduate student Vanessa Strong got the start from the circle, pitching through 2.1 innings while facing 13 batters. She allowed five runs and five hits. Senior Amiyah Aponte came in for 1.2 innings, allowing only one hit while facing eight batters and striking out two.

The Cardinal broke through in the third and fifth innings after the Tigers shut them out in the fourth. Between the two innings, Stanford built to its 8-0 lead, scoring six runs. Without an answer of their own, the Tigers fell on the road.

Pacific returns to action on Saturday, March 9 at noon for a doubleheader against CSU Bakersfield at Bill Simoni Field.
