STOCKTON, Calif.- The Pacific softball team swept CSU Bakersfield in the opening two games of the three-game series with the Roadrunners, kicking off the day with a 2-1 edge out win before following up with a 4-0 shutout victory at Bill Simoni Field.
"I think it was great because we have played really well the last two weeks, even though we haven't always been successful," head coach
Brian Kolze said after the wins. "We found the way to find the win in a one run game. We came back really well with the shutout."
He added, "I think all four pitchers that threw today did a tremendous job keeping us in the game. Even though we didn't have a lot of runs, I thought our at-bats were much stronger than the scores represent. Hopefully we come out tomorrow and keep playing solid defense, and maybe find a way to scratch just a few more runs."
The Tigers were led behind senior
Scarlett Lloyd in the first game of the afternoon. The senior ripped a home run to left field looking at her first pitch in the bottom of the fourth and facing one out. The run tied the game one-all before a single from senior
Reagan Hamilton evolved into a walk-off run from a throwing error by CSU Bakersfield. Junior
Rory Schuck took full advantage, coming in for the score to ice the game 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh facing one out.
Graduate student
Vanessa Strong got the starting nod in game one against the Roadrunners. Through 5.0 innings pitched she faced 20 batters, striking out five, while allowing one run and four hits. Senior
Avery Croxall collected her second win of the season, pitching through the remaining innings. She faced eight batters and struck out three, while allowing two hits.
Following up the first win of the day, the Tigers delivered their first shutout of the season. Sophomore
Olivia Silvestre led the way for the Tigers, recording two runs, one hit and an RBI in three at-bats.
Senior
Rian Dirmeyer led all batters with three hits in three at-bats to tie season high hits in a game, while recording an RBI. Junior
Delaney Scully went for one run, one hit an RBI and four putouts.
Leading from the circle was senior
Scarlett Lloyd. Through 4.2 innings pitched she allowed two hits and faced 20 batters while striking out two. Junior
Desiree Smith collected her second save of the season through 2.1 innings pitched, facing nine batters and striking out one and only allowing one hit.
