Tigers Fall to Fresno State in Extras

FRESNO, Calif. – A back-and-forth battle went to the way of the Bulldogs as the Pacific baseball team fell, 9-8, in 10 innings on Tuesday night at Bob Bennett Stadium.

The Tigers drop to 0-3 on the road and 2-10 overall on the season. The Bulldogs improve to 6-1 at home and 8-3 overall on the season.

Three home runs by the Tigers helped power the offense throughout the night, but the Bulldogs answered back each time and eventually hit a walk-off single in the 10th inning to secure a 9-8 victory.

Sophomore Kaden Petersen his team-leading second home run of the season while freshman Gabe Camacho and sophomore Jake Tandy each hit their first home runs of the year.

Pacific jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning when junior Jakob Guardado singled in a run and sophomore Andre Vidal hit a sacrifice fly.

Fresno State responded in the home half of the second, scoring three times on three hits and two errors to take a 3-2 lead.

In the top of the fifth inning, the Tigers scored three runs, including homers in the frame by Tandy and Camacho. Sophomore Jack Metcho, who extended his on-base streak to 12 games with a 2-for-4 night at the plate, also scored on a wild pitch, giving the visitors a 5-3 edge.

The Bulldogs countered with a two-run double in the bottom of the fifth to level the game at 5-5.

Entering the game off the bench with two outs and two runners on base in the top of the seventh, Petersen launched into the night sky a pinch-hit, three-run jack that put Pacific on top, 8-5.

Fresno State chipped away at Pacific's lead, scoring one in the bottom of the seventh and two more in the bottom of the eighth on a two-run homer.

The Tigers had a chance to take the lead in the top of the ninth, but could not cash in. The Bulldogs were able to load the bases in the bottom of the tenth and send home the winning run on a base hit to left field for the 9-8 final score.

Pacific returns to action at 6 pm on Friday to kickstart a three-game series at UC San Diego.
