SAN DIEGO – No. 20 Pacific women's water polo registered its third consecutive win with an 8-5 victory over No. 24 San Diego State on Saturday at Aztec Aquaplex.
In addition, Pacific (13-8, 2-2, GCC) now has two Golden Coast Conference wins on the season.
Sophomore
Dora Alaksza was the Tigers' leading scorer for the third straight game as she finished with a team-high five goals. Juniors
Hila Futorian and
Addison McGowan and senior
Annikah Lillie notched one goal each.
Freshman goalkeeper
Maja Lizy Dulic made her return with her ninth win in net while grabbing 13 saves.
The first minutes of the game were scoreless before San Diego State (12-12, 1-2 GCC) took the 1-0 lead with 1:37 left in the first period.
Pacific dominated the second and third period with a six-goal stretch that would put it in the lead for good.
The Tigers had a .308 shot accuracy and recorded 26 shots overall.
"We had a great defensive start to the game today," head coach
Candice Vorbeck said. "We communicated well and we were able to stop a number of their top shooters from getting the shots they wanted. Offensively, we had a slower start but were able to put away a number of our 6v5 opportunities to give us a lead."
Up next, Pacific has a week off before hosting California Baptist for Senior Day at noon on Saturday, Apr. 6.
