STOCKTON, Calif.- The Pacific men's tennis team returns for its first match in a week traveling to Saint Mary's on Saturday, March 22 to open conference play on the road. The Tigers wrap up the weekend in San Francisco, playing a match against the Dons.
The Tigers spent the previous week in Texas, competing in two of its three matches as their final match against Georgia State was canceled due to inclement weather. Prior to the cancellation, the Tigers went 2-0 in their contests, defeating Prairie View and host UTSA to extend their winning streak to eight.
Both the Tigers and the Gaels will look to extend their respective streaks as Saint Mary's has won their last three matches. The Gaels have had the winning edge the last four seasons after knocking off Pacific's eight match series winning streak in 2018. The Tigers are 3-2 in Moraga since rejoining the conference in 2013.
Conversely, the Tigers have traded win-losses with San Francisco dating back to 2017. Pacific grabbed the win a season ago, downing the Dons 4-0 in Stockton. The last time the Tigers beat San Francisco on the road was in 2016 after a 5-2 decision. The Dons opened the year 5-7 and are 1-0 in road contests this season.
Pacific is led behind its No. 38 ranked doubles team senior
Peter Alam and junior
Justas Trainauskas. The pair have remained in the ITA national rankings since November and have opened the season 7-1 playing from court one. They have won their last six matches and haven't lost since January.
In singles, Alam improved to 6-0 after earning a win over UTSA. Sharing a similar six match singles winning streak is senior
Ran Amar. He moved to 7-1 on the season after going 2-0 in Texas last week.
The Tigers take on the Gaels at 2 p.m on Saturday, March 23. They'll travel to San Francisco for a Sunday match at 1 p.m.
