STOCKTON, Calif. – Freshman
Gabe Camacho crushed a walk-off home run to lift Pacific baseball past Sacramento State for a 3-2 win on Wednesday night at Klein Family Field.
The Tigers (4-16) have earned back-to-back walk-off wins at home, improving to 4-6 in front of the Stockton faithful. The Hornets (9-12) drop their fifth road game of the season.
Camacho came in off the bench, supplying the jolt of energy in walk-off fashion with his team-leading third homer of the season.
"This was my first walk-off ever," Camacho said. "It was a pretty cool experience. Getting water in the face during the celebration was worth it."
Junior
Jarryd Wood picked up the win for his first victory of the season, throwing 2.2 innings and not allowing any runs.
Sacramento State jumped out on the board first in the top of the first inning with a two-out single to take a 1-0 lead.
In a bullpen-heavy midweek matchup, the Tigers and Hornets were locked in, pitching effectively with exceptional defense pacing play.
Pacific finally was able to get through to the Sacramento State pitching staff in the bottom of the sixth, scoring two runs on a two-RBI single by sophomore
Jake Tandy to give the home team a 2-1 edge.
The Hornets responded in the top of the seventh inning with a sacrifice fly to level the game at 2-2.
With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Camacho sent home the Tiger fans happy with a towering shot to deep right for the walk-off 3-2 win.
Pacific returns to action at 3 pm on Friday, opening West Coast Conference play on the road at Pepperdine.
