STOCKTON, Calif.- The Pacific beach volleyball team hosted San Jose State for its first home contests of the season, but despite clinching a fours win in the opening match, the Tigers fell to the Spartans 4-1 and 5-0.
 
"They were competitive through to the end," head coach Tiger Shelton said. "They've come a long way, so I am excited to see what they are going to do. Everything is a step to the next level, so hopefully we can use this as a stepping stone to get better the next time. I just want us to continually get better. It's tough when you are at home and you can't put it away, but we got some victories and we'll try to build on that."
 
In a show of toughness, despite foregoing the fives matches, the Tigers got on the board after freshman Mia Rossman and senior Juliana Alexander clinched a fours win 21-19, 21-19 over San Jose State. Senior Camdyn Albrecht and partner Kelea Saxton Vaka battled back in their second set, pushing past the Spartans 23-20. Though they forced the tiebreaker, the duo fell 21-17, 20-23, 15-10.
 
The second match followed shortly after the Spartans claimed the first 4-1. Senior Miranda Baptista and graduate student Jadyn Tubbs kept the Spartans on their toes, taking the second set to force the tiebreaker. Despite building the momentum, the pair fell 21-10, 18-21, 15-8.
 
The Tigers head out on the road to spend the weekend in San Luis Obispo, Calif. They'll play four matches in two days, starting with host Cal Poly on Saturday, March 16.
