STOCKTON, Calif. – No. 21 Pacific women's water polo played in its first home game of the season, coming up short to No. 12 LMU 10-5 on Sunday at Chris Kjeldsen Pool.
Pacific (10-8, 0-2 GCC) struggled to get on the board in the first period while LMU (19-2, 2-0 GCC) tallied four unanswered goals.
The Tigers rebounded with three goals in the second. Graduate student
Hailey Williams registered the first at the 6:37 mark. Junior
Natasha Dykman and senior
Annikah Lillie combined for back-to-back goals in the final minute to bring Pacific within two before halftime, 5-3.
The Lions continued to build on their lead with five goals in the second half. Sophomores
Dora Alaksza and
Amaya Leiby notched their first goals in the final two minutes but it was not enough for the comeback.
Freshman goalkeeper
Maja Lizy Dulic had nine saves in net while senior
Megan Acosta made three stops.
Up next, Pacific travels to Hayward where it will take on Cal State East Bay at 2 p.m. on Thursday.
