STOCKTON, Calif. – Pacific women's water polo heads to Claremont for the Pomona-Pitzer Convergence on Friday and Saturday at Haldeman Pool.
Pacific (8-4, 0-1 GCC) starts the tournament against No. 22 LIU at 12:45 p.m. and Mount St. Mary's at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers later play DIII No. 6 La Verne at 8 a.m. and No. 4 USC at 2:15 p.m. on Saturday.
Pacific is coming off a 14-8 loss at Azusa Pacific. Sophomore
Dora Alaksza extended her scoring streak to 12 games with three goals. Freshman goalkeeper
Maja Lizy Dulic notched five saves in net.
Alaksza leads the Tigers in scoring with 45 points on 39 goals and six assists. The Budapest, Hungary native currently leads the Golden Coast Conference with 3.3 goals per game. Junior
Hila Futorian is second for Pacific with 39 points on 24 goals and 15 assists.
Dulic holds a 7-4 record in goal and has made a total of 82 stops this season.
The Tigers won against both the Sharks (21-11) and Mountaineers (13-3) at the Pomona-Pitzer Convergence a season ago.
LIU (9-3) is coming off an 8-6 loss at No. 9 Princeton. Paola Dominguez-Castro leads the Sharks in scoring with 54 points on 48 goals and six assists. She currently leads the Metro Atlantic Athletic conference in goals per game (4.8).
Mount St. Mary's (9-4) split at the Princeton Weekend as it earned a 13-10 win against Bucknell before dropping a 17-6 contest at Princeton. The Mountaineers have their top two scorers in Anita Radaelli (53 points on 23 goals and 30 assists) and Ana Luisa Cotta (50 points on 32 goals and 18 assists).
La Verne (0-3) is the alma mater of head coach
Candice Vorbeck. The Tigers won against the Leopards 16-6 at the Aggie Invite in 2023. Reiley Burton leads La Verne with 10 points on eight goals and two assists.
Pacific has yet to win its first game against USC (8-3). In the last meeting a year ago, the Tigers came up short to the national runner-up Trojans by a score of 16-6 in the Lancer Joust. Ava Stryker leads USC with 36 points on 21 goals and 15 assists. Goalkeeper Carolyne Stern has collected 79 saves in net.
Up next, the Tigers head to No. 4 California for a road contest at 1 p.m. on Friday, Mar. 8.
