LOS ANGELES, Calif.- The Pacific women's tennis team ventured to LMU for its first conference match this season. Despite a push in their singles matches, the Tigers (2-3, 0-1 WCC) fell 4-1.
Freshman
Milena Maiorova and junior
Liza Mladentseva captured their fourth doubles win together playing from the three after a 6-3 decision over LMU (2-4, 1-0 WCC) to start the day for Pacific. The pair remain unbeaten in all five contests to start the season.
While the pair captured the win, the Tigers fell on courts one and two and Pacific found itself in an early deficit.
Shortly after, the Tigers and Lions went off to the races for their singles matches. Senior
Klara Kosan struck first, sweeping LMU's Carlota Molina 6-0 in the first set. Entering set two, the senior captain proved steadfast after falling behind 5-3. She rallied back to beat Molina 7-5 to capture a point for Pacific.
After a defeat on court two, the Lions recaptured the lead. On courts three through six, the Tigers put the Lions to the test and didn't go down easy, forcing a third set across all four remaining courts.
Freshman Maiorova both fought tough in the first set. Maiorova broke through the 5-5 tie to take her first set 7-5 over Fiona Arrese. The Lion came back 6-1 to force a third set. After a 3-0 deficit, Maiorova kept fighting, pulling within one. Down 4-3, Arrese was able to put Maiorova away to put LMU up 3-1.
Freshman
Indiya McLeod moved quickly to jump out to a one set lead after defeating Kim-Michaela Zahraj 6-2. She went up 4-3 in the second but fell 7-5. Zahraj claimed the game winning point after defeating McLeod 6-2 in the third set.
Juniors
Megan Carmichael and Mladentseva each fell in their opening sets to LMU but battled back to take the second 6-1. Their matches went unfinished after the Tigers fell on court five.
The Tigers remain in Southern California as they travel to UC San Diego for a match on Thursday, Feb. 29 at 2:30 p.m.
