DAVIS, Calif.- The Pacific women's tennis team captured its first road win this season with a 4-3 victory over UC Davis. After entering its singles matches down 1-0, the Tigers dug in deep going four of six to defeat the Aggies for the first time since 2015.
"Tremendous effort from our group today! This one means a lot to me since it's our first win over Davis for me as head coach and the program's first win in almost a decade," head coach
Mike Erwin shared. "After coming out a little flat in doubles, we challenged our group to simply compete even if it wasn't going their way. Our freshman, Indiya, clinching the match was such a great moment for her and our squad."
He added, "It was also important that our two fifth year seniors, who were struggling with illness and injury, battled and stayed in their matches until their teammates were able to get the win."
The Tigers opened the afternoon with a 6-4 doubles victory over UC Davis by Tiger tandem junior
Liza Mladentseva and freshman
Milena Maiorova. The pair remain undefeated this year in doubles at the three, now boasting a 3-0 record. Despite tying up doubles matches, Pacific fell on court one and the Aggies took the 1-0 lead.
Mairova opened the winning effort with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Carly Schwartzberg on court five. Junior
Tomi Main followed suit on court two with a 6-4, 6-2 decision over Mika Ikemori. Junior
Megan Carmichael struck on court three with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Michelle Zell.
Davis struck back on courts four and one, as senior
Klara Kosan retired due to injury. The Tiger freshman bookended the singles wins, as freshman
Indiya McLeod clinched the match on court six after downing Claire Galerkin 6-2, 6-2.
The Tigers return to action next week for their first conference match of the season. Pacific travels to Loyola Marymount for an afternoon match on Tuesday, Feb. 27 at 1 p.m.
