STOCKTON, Calif- The Pacific softball team debuted at home in its Libby Matson tournament, falling to both Stony Brook and Creighton. The Tigers attempted two come from behind wins, but the effort fell short as the Seawolves edged out the Tigers 7-6 and the Bluejays staved off the comeback in 10 innings 5-4.
Pacific was led by senior
Rian Dirmeyer who hammered out a season high two home runs for the Tigers against Stony Brook. She ended the game with two runs, two hits and 3 RBI. Junior
Delaney Scully went for a season high 12 putouts in the Tigers' second game of the day, while recording 2 RBI between both games. Junior
Talissa Montez led Pacific with two runs against Creighton. She ended the game with two hits and an RBI.
Five pitchers saw action between both games. Senior
Amiyah Aponte got the start against the Seawolves. She pitched through 2.2 innings before freshman
Justice Alcaraz took over for 0.2. Junior
Desiree Smith closed out the game with 3.2 innings pitched, not allowing a hit or a run in 11 at bats. Graduate student
Vanessa Strong started against the Bluejays, pitching for 5.0 innings. She allowed seven hits and three runs at 21 at bats. Senior
Avery Croxall closed out the final 5.0 innings, allowing two hits and two runs, while striking out five batters in 17 at bats.
In their first game of the day, the Tigers battled the Seawolves at Bill Simoni Field. Stony Brook struck first, rattling off three runs at the top of the third to put Pacific in an early deficit. A sacrifice fly from sophomore
Olivia Silvestre brought in junior
Kyla Eck for the score to start chipping away at the Seawolves lead.
Stony Brook responded with four runs, including a home run from Corinne Badger that brought in two runners. Senior
Rian Dirmeyer collected a home run of her own at the bottom of the sixth. The Tigers scored the bulk of their runs at the bottom of the seventh, starting with a single up mid field by Eck for 1 RBI. Junior
Delaney Scully brought in Eck for the score with a sacrifice fly to left field. Dirmeyer hit her second home run of the day, to bring in Silvestre with two outs. But Stony Brook put out the fiery momentum, drawing the final out of the winning to defeat Pacific 7-6.
Shortly after, the Tigers took the field against Creighton. The Bluejays immediately got to scoring, drawing up three runs with a 2 RBI triple to right field from Ella Dalton. Dalton was brought in by Emma Rosonke to put Creighton up 3-0. Pacific responded by shutting out the Bluejays through nine innings.
The Tigers struck with three runs of their own at the bottom of the fourth. Sophomore
Jordan Hayes hammered a double to right center, drawing in junior Nikki Enriguez to put Pacific on the board. Junior
Talissa Montez doubled to left field, allowing Hayes to score. Montez scored from a hit by Eck to tie the game 3-3.
Both teams went scoreless until Creighton broke free at the top of the tenth with a two run home run. Scully singled to left field in the bottom of the tenth to bring in Montez with two outs, but the Bluejays halted the comeback in its tracks to edge out Pacific 5-4 in ten innings.
The Tigers return tomorrow as they revisit both Creighton and Stony Brook, starting their day with a rematch with the Bluejays at 12:15 p.m. at Bill Simoni Field.
