Men’s Basketball Hosts Pepperdine in Mid-Week Battle at Spanos Center

STOCKTON, Calif. – The first mid-week game of 2024 for the Pacific men's basketball program will bring Pepperdine to town for a 7 p.m. tip Wednesday at the Alex G. Spanos Center.
 
The Tigers (6-22, 0-13 WCC) have won six straight home games against the Waves (11-17, 4-9 WCC). Pacific is 22-11 all-time against Pepperdine at home.
 
Pacific will look to avenge a 93-78 in the first meeting against Pepperdine this year on the road. The Waves shot 38-of-67 (.567) from the field and 11-of-21 (.524) from three-point range. Seniors Donovan Williams and Lesown Hallums, Jr. netted 13 points apiece.
 
Pacific has garnered a balance scoring attack with senior Judson Martindale and Williams leading the way with 9.7 points per game each. Martindale shoots .394 from long range on the season and .439 in conference.
 
In league play, Williams leads the Tigers with 11.8 points and 4.7 rebounds per outing. He's coming off back-to-back 16-point performances against Santa Clara and Gonzaga.
 
Sophomore Moe Odum ranks second in the West Coast Conference in assists (4.8 apg) and third in assist:turnover ratio (2.5). With 19 points and 10 assists in the WCC opener against San Francisco, he became the first student-athlete at Pacific to submit a double-double in points and assists since Pierre Crockrell II posted 10 points and 10 assists against Portland on Feb. 13, 2020.
 
In the last home weekend against Saint Mary's and San Diego, senior Jalen Brown was on fire. He was 10-of-14 (.714) from the field and 8-of-11 (.727) from three-point range. It included a career-high 17 points against the Toreros and he became the first Tiger to hit five three-pointers in a game this year.
 
Graduate Greg Outlaw returned to the lineup this past weekend against Santa Clara and Gonzaga after missing the previous four games due to illness. He was 7-of-14 from the field over the two games including 10 points against the Broncos.
 
Pepperdine is coming off a 91-70 win against Portland on Saturday. The Waves have won two of their last three games which included a 72-63 road win at Loyola Marymount. Michael Ajayi leads the team with 17.3 points and 9.3 rebounds per game and has 13 double-doubles on the year.
 
The game can be watched on ESPN+ with Zack Bayrouty and Bob Thomason as talent, and can be heard on Fox Sports AM 1280 with Dennis Ackerman on the call.
 
NOTES
- Pacific is 43-35 all-time against Pepperdine and swept three games over the Waves last season. It included an 84-71 victory in the WCC Tournament as Odum registered 22 points on 9-of-15 shooting including 3-of-4 from long range.
 
- Pacific is 804-450 all-time at home and 341-217 in the Spanos Center.
 
- This Saturday, Pacific will honor five student-athletes in a special pre-game Senior Day ceremony. It includes Nick Blake, Brown, Cam Denson, Hallums and Williams. It will be the final home game of the year.
 
- On Feb. 9 at the Stockton Kings (NBA G League) game, Hallums was honored on the court with the CalHope Courage Award. The award honors student-athletes at California colleges and universities who have overcome the stress, anxiety, and mental trauma associated with personal hardships and adversity. - The Tigers are 5-2 this season when leading at half. In three seasons under head coach Leonard Perry, Pacific is 25-10 when leading at half, 22-13 when it makes more threes than the opposition and 6-0 when holding the opposition to under 60 points.
 
- Pacific is 3-1 this season in games decided by one possession (three points or less).
 
- Pacific's home game against Gonzaga on Jan. 27 was part of a national Coaches vs. Cancer Week initiative benefiting the American Cancer Society. The Pacific men's basketball staff wore Suits & Sneakers to raise awareness.
 
- Pacific's non-conference slate was highlighted by an 87-79 road victory over Cal on Nov. 10. It was the first win over Cal in 11 tries dating back to Dec. 10, 1954 when the Tigers won 82-77 in Berkeley 69 seasons ago. It was Pacific's first win over a Pac-12 opponent since Dec. 17, 1994 when it beat Oregon State at home 72-66.
 
- The Tigers have used 13 different starting lineups this year.
