Game Recap: Women's Water Polo |

No. 13 Pacific Edged by Marist at Bronco Invitational

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – No. 13 Pacific women's water polo came up short against Marist 11-10 at the Bronco Invitational on Friday at Sullivan Aquatic Center.
 
Sophomore Dora Alaksza led the way for the Tigers with four points on three goals and one assist. Freshman Ella Cowan and junior Ilyana Zlobinsky each registered three points on two goals and one assist.
 
Freshman Maja Lizy Dulic grabbed four saves in net.
 
Pacific (5-3) opened the first period with a goal from graduate student Hailey Williams. Marist (8-10) rallied with the next three goals to take a 3-1 lead at the 2:22 mark. Senior Annikah Lillie threw the ball into the back of the cage to get the Tigers within one at the end of the first, 3-2.
 
In the second period, junior Hila Futorian scored on a powerplay before Alaksza tied the game at 4-all with 3:46 left. The Red Foxes responded with three more unanswered goals to take the 7-4 lead at the half.  
 
Marist dominated the third period outscoring Pacific 3-1. Alaksza registered the lone goal on the five-meter attempt with 47 seconds left. The score was 10-5 in favor of the Red Foxes heading into the fourth period.
 
The Tigers opened the final eight minutes with goals from Cowan and Zlobinsky, 10-7. Under five minutes left to play, Alaksza's goal in the back of the cage ignited a 3-0 run that brought Pacific within a point. Alaksza attempted a shot to tie the game in the final seconds, but it sailed past the net and brought the contest to its final score.
 
Up next, the Tigers continue the Bronco Invitational with a double header against Brown at 9:40 a.m. and No. 16 San Jose State at 4:40 p.m. on Saturday.
