Tigers Hit the Road for Games at Santa Clara, Gonzaga

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – In its final road games of the West Coast Conference season, the Pacific men's basketball program will travel for a 7 p.m. contest Thursday against Santa Clara at the Leavey Center, followed by a 6 p.m. Saturday match-up against Gonzaga at the McCarthey Athletic Center.

The Tigers (6-20, 0-11 WCC) will look to avenge defeats to Santa Clara (15-10, 6-4 WCC) and Gonzaga (18-6, 8-2 WCC) earlier this season.

In this first meeting against the Broncos, sophomore Moe Odum registered a season-high 21 points in the 88-69 decision, one shy of his career-high 22 set last season against Pepperdine. Against the Bulldogs, senior Donovan Williams led the way with 14 points; it came in a game which was tied with 7:30 remaining.

Senior Jalen Brown was on fire last week for the Tigers. In the two games against Saint Mary's and San Diego, he was 10-of-14 (.714) from the field and 8-of-11 (.727) from three-point range. He's coming off a career-high 17 points against the Toreros and became the first Tiger to hit five three-pointers in a game this year.

Senior Judson Martindale has hit a three-pointer in every WCC game this season and is 18-of-36 (.500) from long range in conference. On the season, he's the team's leading scorer with 10.1 points per game and shoots .415 from distance.

Williams returned to the lineup Saturday after missing the previous two games due to injury. He averages team-highs of 10.9 points and 5.2 rebounds per game in conference.

Odum ranks second in the West Coast Conference in both assists (4.8 apg) and assist:turnover ratio (2.5). With 19 points and 10 assists in the WCC opener against San Francisco, he became the first student-athlete at Pacific to submit a double-double in points and assists since Pierre Crockrell II posted 10 points and 10 assists against Portland on Feb. 13, 2020.

This past Friday at the Stockton Kings (NBA G League) game, senior Lesown Hallums, Jr. was honored on the court with the CalHope Courage Award. The award honors student-athletes at California colleges and universities who have overcome the stress, anxiety, and mental trauma associated with personal hardships and adversity. More on Hallums' story can be read on calhopecourageaward.org.

Santa Clara leads the WCC in three-point percentage with a .367 mark. The Broncos were 15-of-39 (.385) from distance in the first meeting against the Tigers as Johnny O'Neil was 6-of-10 from beyond-the-arc and scored 23 points.

Gonzaga ranks first in the league in scoring with 84.9 points per outing. The Bulldogs relied heavily on their starters in the first game against Pacific as all five scored at least 12 points including Graham Ike with 20.

Both games this week can be watched on ESPN+ or heard live for free on Fox Sports AM 1280 with Zack Bayrouty on the calls.
