No. 17 Pacific Sweeps Aggie Invite with Win Over No. 14 UC Davis

Box Score DAVIS, Calif. – No. 17 Pacific women's water polo swept the Aggie Invite with a statement 13-10 victory over #14 UC Davis on Sunday at Schaal Aquatics Center.

"Today was a lot of fun," head coach Candice Vorbeck said. "This was only our second tournament weekend that we've had so far. We really figured out our first quarter which has kind of our deficit up until now. It was a good learning weekend for us in the first two games and then we really got to show our potential in our third game. We knew this was gonna be competitive. We've been preparing for it. We prepared well."

Pacific (5-2) was led in scoring by junior Hila Futorian who matched her career-high six goals. Sophomore Dora Alaksza notched four goals while graduate student Hailey Williams had two.

Freshman goalkeeper Maja Lizy Dulic made seven stops in net.

UC Davis (1-11) jumped out to a 3-0 advantage in the first period. Alaksza got Pacific on the board with back-to-back goals to inch within one. Junior Addison McGowan found the back of the net with 50 seconds left to help the Tigers stay with the Aggies going into the second quarter, 4-3.

Both teams went scoreless in the second period till 4:38 when Futorian scored. The Petah Tikva, Israel native registered a hat trick that tied the game six-all going into halftime.

UC Davis scored two quick goals during the final five minutes of the third period to get back in the lead, 9-7. The teamwork of Futorian and Alaksza came into play as they combined for the next four goals to put the Tigers up 11-10.

It was all Pacific in the fourth period with final goals from Alaksza and graduate student Hailey Williams.

"We knew we needed to be better than what we played in the first days of the Aggie Invite," Futorian said. "We just came with a lot of positivity and a lot of good mentality for today's game. This win is not by any means anyone's individual goals. It's everyone's together. We worked well in all of the aspects of the game. I'm proud of us for this weekend and specifically about this game."

Up next, the Tigers compete at the Bronco Invitational at Santa Clara on Feb. 16-18. Pacific begins the tournament against Marist at 2:30 p.m. on Friday.
