FULLERTON, Calif- The Pacific softball team ended the final day of the Easton Classic falling in its second game to Southern Utah 6-2.
"Though we played better today and we competed better, it was overall a very disappointing weekend," head coach
Brian Kolze said, "But we are glad we learned some things about ourselves as well as what we have to work on."
The Tigers (1-4) opened the afternoon with a single from redshirt sophomore
Olivia Silvestre at her first at bat of the day. A single and RBI from senior
Reagan Hamilton brought Silvestre in for the score, putting the Tigers up 1-0 at the top of the first. The Thunderbirds (4-1) responded with four runs to overtake the lead 4-1.
Both teams' scoring efforts went quiet until the top of the sixth. The Tigers pulled within two after senior
Rian Dirmeyer knocked a home run out to right field. Southern Utah claimed two more runs at the bottom of the sixth to gain the 6-2 edge heading into the top of the seventh. Despite attempting to push back, the Tigers fell 6-2.
Dirmeyer led Pacific with one hit, one RBI, one HR and one run in three at bats. Senior
Amiyah Aponte got the start from the circle. Three pitchers saw action, including Aponte, with graduate student
Vanessa Strong coming in at the bottom of the third and senior
Avery Croxall taking over to lead the final two outs at the bottom of the sixth.
Silvestre led all Tigers through the tournament with a .429 batting average and four runs. She also recorded six hits and a .500 slugging percentage over the weekend. Hamilton led with 5 RBI and a .526 slugging percentage.
Pacific returns to action next weekend as the Tigers embark for another three day tournament stretch. They head out to Northridge for the CSUN Tournament Friday, Feb. 16 through Sunday, Feb. 18.
