Pacific Shows Hard Fought Effort in Second Half At San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO – Pacific women's basketball came out with a strong effort in the second half but dropped its road contest to San Francisco by a score of 79-72 on Saturday at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center.

Junior Anaya James tabbed her third 20+ point performance of the season. The Inglewood, Calif. native scored 21 points which was two points shy of her season high. James also added six assists to her stat line.  Junior Elizabeth Elliott and graduate student Cecilia Holmberg registered 12 points apiece. Holmberg also grabbed eight rebounds.

The Tigers were down by 14 at halftime, 50-36. Pacific came out hot in the third quarter with a 21-7 run. Holmberg grabbed an offensive rebound and put the ball into the basket to tie the contest 57-all at the 4:23 mark, forcing a Dons timeout.

Pacific was held scoreless the rest of the third while San Francisco retook the lead with seven unanswered points, 64-57.

The Tigers opened the fourth quarter with back-to-back buckets from Holmberg and Elliott. Baskets from James and redshirt senior Rosie Schweizer kept the score within four with 5:11 to go, 69-65. The Dons went on a 7-2 run to extend their lead to 76-67 with 33 seconds left. James notched a three and second chance layup to bring Pacific within five in the final seconds, but it was not enough for the comeback.

The Tigers were 28-of-64 (.438) from the field, 4-of-15 (.267) from the three-point line and 12-of-15 at the free throw line (.800). The Dons were 26-of-61 (.426) overall, 11-of-25 (.440) from behind the arc and 16-of-21 (.762) at the charity stripe.
