WAIMEA, Hawaii – On the final day of the Amer Ari Invitational, the Pacific men's golf team recorded a 15-under-par score of 273, finishing in a tie for 12th place with San Jose State in the 20-team field on the Mauna Lani Golf Course.
The competitive field included first-ranked Auburn and 12 other programs in the Top 50. North Carolina won the event with a team score of 68-under-par 796. Arizona State finished in second place with a 63-under-par 801 score while Auburn rounded out the podium with a 58-under-par 806 score. Pacific completed its three-day total with a 38-under-par 826 score.
Freshman
Carlos Astiazaran was the top finisher for the Tigers in the tournament, standing in a tie for 14th place at the end of the competition. He tallied five birdies on the final day to contribute to his three-under par 69. Astiazaran finished the tournament with a three-day score of 14-under-par 202 (67-66-69).
Fifth-year
Maverick Pavletich followed Astiazaran with a three-day score of 12-under-par 204 (68-69-67). Pavletich and Astiazaran were tied with a team-high 18 birdies. Senior
Petr Janik finished in a tie for 50th place with an eight-under-par 208 (71-70-67). Senior
Alex Barclay and sophomore
Ian Fritz rounded out the team scoring with a four-over-par 220 (73-77-70) and seven-over-par 223 (75-69-79), respectively.
Junior
Daniel Henely competed as an individual, wrapping up his tournament with a nine-over-par 225 (82-71-72).
"We had a great team effort today," Pacific head coach
John Cook said. "It's always great to have four of your counting scores under par. Carlos had a very solid top 15 in this stacked field. Maverick and Petr both played great as well. We will use momentum from this tournament for the spring."
On Monday, Feb. 19, The Tigers return to action for the two-day Wyoming Match Play Championship.
