WBB Recap vs. Washington State 2024

Third Quarter the Difference in Pacific’s Loss to Washington State

Box Score STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific women's basketball program and Washington State were back-and-forth for most of the night but the Tigers were outscored by 11 in the third quarter and fell 74-64 Monday at the Alex G. Spanos Center.

Pacific (5-9, 1-3 WCC) entered the second half up by four after narrowly outplaying the Cougars (8-6, 3-0 WCC) in the first half and the first two points of the half pushed the Tiger lead out to six, the highest of the night, before a 12-0 Washington State run turned the six-point deficit into a six-point lead. Pacific got a small 4-0 run out of the timeout but the Cougars responded with 12-7 quarter closing run that gave the team the cushion necessary to stave off future Tiger runs.

Graduate Liz Smith tallied a team-leading 17 points alongside seven rebounds and two steals. Smith was particularly dangerous over the short two-game homestand after putting up her career-high 30 on Saturday against Saint Mary's. The shifty guard also drew a game-high eight fouls on Washington State in her 40 minutes of action.

Seniors Anaya James and Elizabeth Elliott both turned in double-digit scoring efforts with 15 and 12 points, respectively.

Junior Sydney Ward recorded nine points, eleven rebounds, four assists, four steals and three blocks. Ward's four steals eclipsed her previous career-high set back in 2022 while the three blocks match her career-high set earlier this season against Stanislaus State.

Sophomore Nyah Lowery provided a spark off the bench with a perfect 3-for-3 shooting, including a three-pointer, four rebounds and two steals. The Tigers have posted double-digit steals in half their games this season.

After the new year, the team travels to the University of San Diego Toreros on Saturday, Jan. 4. Tip off from the Jenny Craig Pavilion is set for 2 p.m. on ESPN+.
