Pacific Wears Down UAPB for Home Win

STOCKTON, Calif. – Ending the game on a 13-3 run, the Pacific men's basketball program topped Arkansas-Pine Bluff 83-71 on Wednesday at the Alex G. Spanos Center.
 
Pacific (4-4) led 70-68 at the 3:23 mark when it put the game away with a 12-0 spurt to go up 82-68 in the final minute. The Tigers pulled down 17 offensive rebounds against UAPB (1-7), which led to a big 20-4 edge in second chance points.
 
Pacific outrebounded the Golden Lions 45-24 on the night.
 
A career game came from sophomore Elijah Fisher who tallied a career-high 28 points and matched his career-high with nine rebounds. He was 11-of-15 from the field and played all 40 minutes.
 
A double-double came from senior Elias Ralph with 18 points and 13 rebounds. He flirted with the school's first career triple double with a career-high seven assists. Ralph was a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line.
 
An all-around effort came from junior Lamar Washington with 19 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. The 19 points and seven rebounds matched career-highs.
 
The Tigers shot .571 from the field in the second half after posting a .400 clip in the first. Pacific outscored UAPB 48-36 in the paint.
 
UAPB garnered 16 points apiece from Klemen Vuga and Dante Sawyer. The Golden Lions shot .400 (6-15) from long range in the second half but cooled off for a .286 (2-7) mark in the second.
 
It was a back-and-forth battle for much of the way as the game featured 11 ties and 10 lead changes. UAPB held a narrow 41-40 edge at the intermission.
 
The Golden Lions led as late as 4:40 in the second half when Washington tied it 67-67. Washington followed it up with a three to take the lead for good 70-67 with 3:54 remaining.
 
After a free throw by UAPB, free throws on the other end by Ralph started the decisive 12-0 run. It included a three by junior Jefferson Koulibaly to make it a double-digit game 79-68 with 1:07 to go.
 
This game, as well as Pacific's road game at Missouri on Nov. 22, were part of the Big Cat Classic - a men's basketball three-team event. The event was organized by Russ Potts Productions Inc (RPPI). Fisher, Ralph and Washington were named to the All-Tournament Team after the game.
 
Pacific will remain at home Saturday when it hosts Cal State Fullerton at 4:30 p.m. at the Spanos Center. The Tigers are 48-41 all-time against the Titans including 31-12 at home.
 

NOTES
- Tigers improved to 3-0 all-time against Arkansas-Pine Bluff with the last meeting being a 74-50 win on Nov. 26, 2021.
 
- The Tigers are now 6-0 all-time against the Southwestern Athletic Conference with wins over Florida A&M, Mississippi Valley State and Prairie View A&M in addition to UAPB.
 
- Pacific improved to 806-453 all-time at home and 343-220 in the Alex G. Spanos Center.
 
- The Tigers are now 4-0 this year when they outrebound their opponent and 4-0 when they score at least 80 points.
 
- Fisher topped his previous career-high of 25 points set last season as a member of DePaul. His previous season-high as a Tiger was 23 points at Arkansas. Fisher's nine rebounds matched his career-best set last season at DePaul against LSU. It was the second time this season he played 40 minutes and third time in his career.
 
- Ralph notched his fourth double-double of the season and 15th of his career. His seven assists topped his previous career-best of five set earlier this season against Northern Arizona. Ralph became the first Tiger to go perfect from the free throw line on eight attempts since Alphonso Anderson was 8-of-8 against BYU on Jan. 29, 2022.
 
- Washington matched his career-high of 19 points set against Arkansas last week. It was the fourth time in his career he secured seven rebounds. Washington entered the game ranked top-10 in the nation in assists per game with 7.0 and was right on par.
