Tigers Host Sacramento State, Travel to UC Davis This Week

STOCKTON, Calif. – Pacific men's soccer (2-1-1) will host its second home match of the season at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 7 against Sacramento State (2-2) before concluding a two-game week against nearby Northern California rivals by traveling to UC Davis (2-1) for a 4 p.m. match on Sunday, Sept. 10.

Pacific went 1-1-1 last week, losing at Santa Barbara, 4-2, shutting out UC Riverside at home, 1-0, and tying CSU Bakersfield on the road, 1-1.

Fifth-year senior Derick Roque had a goal in each game and leads the team with three. Samuel Saiz Herraiz leads the team with two assists. Joshua Moya has been in goal all 360 minutes for the Tigers through four games, recording one clean sheet and 12 saves, including a season-best five to preserve the 1-1 tie at CSU Bakersfield. Pacific is 1-0 at home this season.

Pacific last beat Sacramento State in 2017, a 2-0 road win. Three of the four games played since 2017 ended in ties with the Hornets picking up a 2-0 win in 2021. Sacramento State is 0-2 against WCC opponents this season, losing to Portland and Gonzaga. The Hornets play men's soccer in the Big West (Big Sky for other sports) and was picked fifth in the preseason poll, just behind UC Riverside.

A strong opponent awaits the Tigers on Sunday as UC Davis opened the year by sweeping a road trip to Ohio, knocking off Dayton and Ohio State. The Aggies dropped a 3-2 decision to Seattle last Sunday and will travel to Loyola Marymount for a Wednesday match before the Tigers visit.

The Aggies were picked third in the Big West preseason poll behind UC Santa Barbara and UC Irvine. UC Davis has won four of the last five matches against Pacific, including the last two. Last season, Pacific dropped at 2-1 decision on Knoles Field.

Next week, Pacific will continue the schedule against Northern California opponents by hosting San Jose State in a 7 p.m. match on Wednesday, Sept. 13.
