STOCKTON, Calif—Pacific women's soccer (6-5-1, 0-1 WCC) fell in its West Coast Conference opener against Portland (7-1-2, 1-0 WCC), 4-0, on Saturday.
"We have to continue to work and compete as the WCC is a difficult conference," said co-head coach
J.J. Wozniak.
The Tigers struggled to find the net as the Pilots' defense did not allow them a single shot on target. Portland ended up tallying seven of 14 shots between the pipes, with four of them turning into goals.
The Pilots scored the first goal of the game in the seventh. Looking to rebound, freshman goalkeeper
Libby Davy went to work in the net stopping Portland's next three of four shots. But the Pilots would notch an insurance goal in the 39th minute to take a 2-0 lead going into halftime.
Portland continued to extend its lead at the start of the second half with a goal in the 56th and 67th minute.
Fifth-year senior
Jaida Nyby led Pacific with three shots while fifth-year senior
Lauren Frohan and sophomore
Alexis Pashales posted one apiece.
"Not the way we wanted to start," said co-head coach
Danesha Adams. "Now is the time not to feel sorry ourselves, but time to regroup and get ready to compete on the road at Pepperdine on Wednesday."
Up next, the Tigers hit the road to Malibu for a matchup with Pepperdine at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.
