SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The Pacific men's golf team wrapped up its first tournament of the 2023-24 season Tuesday, securing a tenth-place finish with a 15-over-par 879 at the USF-Howard Intercollegiate at TPC Harding Park. Loyola Marymount placed first after posting a 38-under 826, while host San Francisco and UC Davis rounded out the podium.
Wrapping up his first collegiate tournament, freshman
Carlos Astiazaran scored the best round of the Tigers in the final 18 holes, posting a one-under 71 to lead the team. Astiazaran finished the three-round tournament in a tie for 33rd place, moving up six spots from the first day to earn a one-over 217.
Senior
Maverick Pavletich and senior
Petr Janik both finished in a tie for 51st place with a seven-over 215.
Sophomore
Timothy Jung turned in a solid outing in the final round, recovering from the opening day's afternoon with an even-par 72. Jung closed out the tournament in a tie for 59th place with an eight-over 224.
Senior
Alex Barclay rounded out the scoring for the Tigers. Barclay registered a seven-over par 79 to tally his three-day total at a 10-over 226.
"Carlos had a solid round of one-under today," said Pacific head coach
John Cook at the end of the second day of the tournament. "Tim had a nice bounce back round after yesterday's afternoon round. Not the results we were looking for this week, but we will regroup and get ready for Fresno next week."
Pacific returns to action on Monday, Sept. 25, as the Tigers compete in the Nick Watney Invitational, hosted by Fresno State at Fort Washington Country Club.
