STOCKTON, Calif. – With only one home event and with men's water polo and cross country taking the week off from competition, it is a lighter schedule for the Tigers this week. Men's soccer, women's soccer and volleyball each have just one competition this week as teams prepare for or begin WCC play.

Saturday, Sept. 23 – Men's Soccer (3-2-3) hosts Houston Christian (2-2-2), Knoles Field, 7 p.m.
Monday, Sept. 18 - Tuesday, Sept. 19 – Men's Golf at USF-Howard Intercollegiate – Pacific men's golf opens the season the TPC Harding Park course. A 14-team field is expected in the two-day event, including five WCC and four HBCU programs. The teams will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 and Tuesday. The event will bring the fledging Howard program to the Bay Area. The program has received significant support from Stephen Curry since it started in 2020.
Thursday, Sept. 21 – Sunday, Sept. 24 – Women's Tennis at Battle in the Bay – The women's program opens the fall season by sending three players to the Battle, including fifth-year senior
Klara Kosan, junior
Tomi Main and freshman
Indiya McLeod. The event will be conducted at the California Tennis Club in San Francisco. Kosan and Main participated last year with newcomer Main picking up three straight wins in the consolation round, finishing with a 3-2 record in her first Pacific event.
Thursday, Sept. 21 – Sunday, Sept. 24 – Men's Tennis at Battle in the Bay – The doubles team of
Peter Alam and
Justas Trainauskas advanced from last week's qualifying event with four wins in Berkeley and will play at the California Tennis Club this week. The pair had wins over doubles squads from UC Davis, Arizona State and two sets of Cal Bears to earn the weekend title.
Thursday, Sept. 21 – Volleyball (8-4, 0-0) at Pepperdine (4-6, 0-0), 7 p.m. – Pacific, picked fourth in the WCC preseason poll, opens the conference season at Pepperdine, the team picked second in the WCC. The Tigers ride the momentum of a sweep of the three opponents in the Central Cal Challenge for the second year. Pacific beat Fresno State, 3-0, Cal State Bakersfield, 3-0, and Sacramento State, 3-1, to claim title. Fifth-year senior
Biamba Kabengele was named tournament MVP for the second time this season. This time, she compiled 35 kills and eight aces in the three matches. Seniors
Alexa Edwards and
Ramonni Cook were also named to the all-tournament team after recording 30 and 22 kills, respectively. Pepperdine stumbled to a 1-6 start, including losses to #7 Oregon and #20 Kansas. The Waves, who have played in the last three NCAA Tournaments, have won their last three non-conference matches headed into WCC play, defeating Liberty, Washington and Cal Poly.
Saturday, Sept. 23 – Men's Soccer (3-2-3) hosts Houston Christian (2-2-2), Knoles Field, 7 p.m. – The Tigers host the Huskies in the last nonconference match before opening WCC play at Portland the following week. Pacific tied both opponents last week, San Jose State at home, 1-1, and Utah Valley on the road, 2-2. Fifth-year senior
Derick Roque leads the WCC in goals scored with seven, including three last week. The Huskies have a 1-0 win over Santa Clara on their resume. They were picked third in the Ohio Valley Conference after finishing ninth of 10 teams in the Western Athletic Conference a year ago. The school is an all-sports member of the Southland Conference.
Sunday, Sept. 24 – Women's Soccer (6-3-1) at #12 Santa Clara (6-1-2), 1 p.m. – The Tigers and Broncos meet in a non-conference match before both teams begin WCC play. The two programs started a non-conference series last year with Pacific upsetting Santa Clara, 2-0, in Stockton. This is the return game of the series. The WCC match between the two will be played at Pacific at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14 as part of the Homecoming and Family Weekend Celebration. Both Pacific and Santa Clara have wins over Oregon State. The defending WCC champion Broncos raced to a 6-0 start on the season before ties with California and Cal Poly and a 1-0 setback to #3 Stanford. Last week, Pacific had a win over Fresno State, 3-0, and a loss to Cal Poly, 3-1.
Monday, Sept. 25 – Tuesday, Sept. 26 – Men's Golf at Nick Watney Invitational, Fresno, 8 a.m. – Pacific will play in back-to-back weeks by participating in the 54-hole event at Fort Washington Country Club in Fresno. Last year, Pacific finished 11
th of 16 teams in this event. A regular event on the Tiger schedule, Pacific placed fifth in 2021, its best finish since winning the tournament in 2014.
Women's Cross Country – The Tigers arer off this week after a second-place finish at the Stump Invitational hosted by UC Davis on Friday. The host Aggies won the three-team event. Senior
Anahi Avila Perez placed eighth and was the top Tiger finisher. The next action for the Tigers will be a home invitational on Friday, Sept. 29 at Micke Grove Golf Course in Lodi. The women's race will start at 6:15 p.m.
Men's Water Polo – The #7 ranked Tigers (5-2) hosted the top two teams in the country last weekend, jumping out to a 3-1 edge on #2 UCLA before falling 20-12 on Saturday and taking the early 2-1 lead on #1 California on Sunday before eventually dropping a 17-8 decision. The team has the week off before returning to competition September 29-30 at the Gary Troyer Tournament in Claremont, Calif.
