Potent Baylor Hitting Attack Spoils Upset Bid Hopes for Pacific Volleyball

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Despite a .202 hitting percentage, it took a hot-hitting effort by No. 14 Baylor to defeat Pacific, 25-12, 25-23, 25-18 in the final match of the Ram Volleyball Classic on Sunday.

The Tigers (5-4) did not back down to the nationally-ranked Bears as the one-two tandem of Alexa Edwards and Biamba Kabengele each had eight kills to lead Pacific, who had seven service aces in the loss.

The Bears (4-3) had 46 kills in the victory with Kyndal Stowers and Elise McGhee posting nine apiece in the win. Stowers also had seven digs and an ace and 41 assists by Averi Carlson in the win.

Pacific setter Jenna Heller had another double double with 14 assists and 10 digs in the defeat. It was the sixth double double in nine matches for the Gilbert, Arizona native.

The match saw the two teams split the first four points before back-to-back points by Baylor put them ahead for the remainder of the set. Later in the set, Baylor went on a 10-4 spurt on its way to the set victory.

The second set saw Pacific race to an early 3-0 lead as the Tigers held the lead until Baylor took its first lead at 13-12. Refusing to concede, the two teams went back and eventually tied at 22. Then, the Bears scored three of the final four points on its way to the 25-23 set victory.

The third set after an early 2-0 lead by Pacific managed to tie the set at 17 on kills by Edwards and Kabengele to go along with a service ace by Heller. The Bears closed out the set and the match on an 8-1 run en route to the victory.

Next, Pacific will host the Central Cal Challenge where they will welcome Fresno State (Thursday at 6 p.m.), CSU Bakersfield (Friday at 6 p.m.) and Sacramento State (Saturday at 3 p.m.) to the Alex G. Spanos Center.
