Pacific Volleyball Back on the Road for EWU Tournament

STOCKTON, Calif. - Energized by a win in the home opener against UC Davis on Tuesday night, the Pacific volleyball team will return to the road for the EWU Tournament for three matches against Nevada, Seattle and host Eastern Washington on Friday and Saturday, respectively. 

Pacific heads into the weekend on the strength of the play from Biamba Kabengele and Alexa Edwards, who have recorded 46 (3.54 kills per set) and 40 kills (3.08 kills per set), respectively through the first three matches. Setter play has been led by Jenna Heller (99 assists / 7.62 assists per set) and Dylan Gilkey (25 assists / 3.13 assists per set). Heller started the season with a pair of double double performances. The service game saw Pacific record 14 service aces with six apiece in its last two matches.

Defensively, Megan Nishimura led the Tigers with 51 digs (3.92 digs per set) and Emily Van Groningen had a team-best 11 blocks (0.65 blocks per set).

Friday, Sept. 1
vs. Nevada (1-2 as of 8/31): The Wolf Pack started the season with a pair of losses at the Sacramento State Invitational and its lone win at the tournament was against Big Ten member, Iowa. The Wolf Pack's Tenya Maeva was named the Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Week after a 100 assists, 39 digs, seven blocks and two service aces in the opening weekend. 

vs. Seattle (2-1 as of 8/31): The Redhawks have the best record of the four participating teams with wins over Idaho (Aug. 25) and UC Riverside (Aug. 26) at the Idaho Volleyball Classic.Seattle has posted 11.3 kills per set on its way to a .204 hitting percentage. Arianna Bilby has a team-best 37 kills and a .188 hitting percentage, setter Elif Teksoy is averaging 9.20 assists per set. Seattle U has recorded a 24 to 16 advantage in blocks per set. 

Saturday, Sept. 2
at Eastern Washington (1-2 as of 8/31): The Eagles started the season with a pair of losses at the CSU Bakersfield Tournament and its lone win at the tournament was against Providence. EWU is led by Sage Brustad, who is averaging a team-best 3.83 kills per set and a  .208 hitting percentage.
