STOCKTON, Calif. - Home sweet home. The Pacific volleyball team will open up its slate of 2023 home games at the Alex G. Spanos Center on Tuesday when the Tigers welcome UC Davis on Tuesday at 6 p.m. Pacific will look to win its home opener for the third-straight season.
The matchup between a pair of former Big West Conference rivals will take place. UC Davis holds a slight 9-8 advantage in the all-time series with a 5-3 mark in matches played in Stockton. The two teams last faced one another on August 31, 2019 with a win by the Aggies.
At the Arizona Cactus Classic, over the weekend, Pacific hit .167 and recorded 12.8 kills per set in its two contests against Power Five opponents, North Carolina and Arizona.
Alexa Edwards led the attack with 3.33 kills per set and
Logan Blutreich posted a team-best .269 hitting percentage.
The setter play was split between
Jenna Heller (66 assists / 7.33 assists per set) and
Dylan Gilkey (25 assists / 3.13 assists per set). Heller started the season with a double double, recording 26 assists and 18 digs in the five-set loss to North Carolina. She followed that up with a 40-assist effort against Arizona. It was the 12
th time that she reached the 40-assist plateau after a sophomore season where she recorded 1073 assists. The service game saw Pacific record eight service aces in its two matches.
Defensively,
Megan Nishimura led the Tigers with 35 digs (3.89 digs per set) and
Emily Van Groningen had a team-best seven blocks (0.78 blocks per set).
