SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara (1-1) picked up a 4-2 win after scoring three goals in the last 20 minutes to overcome a 2-1 deficit to defeat the Pacific men's soccer team (1-1) on Monday evening.Â
Pacific held a 2-1 lead after back-to-back goals by
Derick Roque in the 50th minute and
Samuel Villalta in the 62nd minute.Â
UC Santa Barbara (1-1), who is the preseason favorite in the Big West Conference,  got on the scoreboard first in the contest when Eddie Villeda scored in the 32nd minute for a 1-0 advantage.Â
Roque tied the contest for Pacific in the 50th minute and the Tigers nearly took the lead when
Samuel Saiz Herraiz had an attempt that was saved by UCSB goalkeeper Leroy Zeller. Later in the half, Pacific did move ahead when Saiz Herraiz connected with Villalta on a goal in the 62nd minute.
The Gauchos picked up the equalizer when Haruki Utsumi scored in the 69th minute. Then, host UCSB regained the lead when Kenny Villatoro scored in the 75th minute. The Gauchos added to its lead when Lucas Gonzalez successfully converted a penalty kick attempt in the 76th minute.Â
UCSB out shot Pacific, 7-1 in the first 45 minutes and 13-7 for the contest. Despite the advantage in shots, many of the attempts sailed away from the two goalkeepers as Tiger goalkeeper
Joshua Moya and Gaucho goalkeeper Zeller each made just one save in the contest.Â
Next, Pacific will host UC Riverside on Thursday at 7 p.m. for its home opener at Knoles Field.Â
