Box Score sTUCSON, Ariz. – The Pacific women's volleyball team (0-2) dropped a four-set match to host Arizona in the second day of the Cactus Classic, 25-19, 22-25, 25-23, 25-19.
Alexa Edwards and
Biamba Kabengele led the team in kills with 15 and 14, respectively.
Darina Kumanova and
Logan Blutreich each chipped in seven kills while
Emily Van Groningen added six in the balanced attack.
Megan Nishimura led the team with 21 digs while Edwards tallied 16. Kabengele and Van Groningen were each credited with five blocks. In the critical third set with the score tied, 1-1, Pacific had a narrow 21-20 lead after scoring on a block. The Wildcats won five of the next seven points for the 25-23 win.
"We played hard against two good teams and will improve on our unforced errors," said Pacific head coach
Greg Gibbons. "We put ourselves in situations to be successful and will work on closing out critical points and sets. It is all about the process, and we will get better."
Pacific will return to action Tuesday at the Alex G. Spanos Center against UC Davis. The Aggies (2-0) were at the same event, picking up four-set wins over both Arizona and North Carolina. Pacific and UC Davis have not played since 2019, which is the only meeting between the two since Pacific left the Big West Conference in 2013.
