Leonard Perry have officially announced the first signee for the 2023-24 season, Burke Smith of Glen Allen, Va.
"I'm excited about Burke's ability to score the ball from various places on the floor," Perry said about his recruit. "We know he has a good feel for the game and will be putting him in every scenario and using his ability to stretch the floor offensively."
Smith, a transfer from Boise State, joins the Tigers after spending three seasons with the Broncos, appearing in 14 games. As a freshman during the 2020-21 season, Smith made his collegiate debut on November 29 against Sam Houston and entered the scoring column for the first time against College of Idaho, scoring one point and grabbing two rebounds in four minutes of work on December 4.
Last season, Smith appeared in 10 games and scored a season-high five points in a 91-50 win over New Orleans on December 13. Against the Privateers, Smith shot 50 percent (two-for-four) from the floor and knocked down one long-range shot in eight minutes while recording four rebounds.
Before his time at Boise State, Smith excelled at Trinity Episcopal School, leading the Titans to a 104-18 record and four Virginia Prep League titles. Rated as a three-star prospect by 247 Sports, Smith posted career highs as a senior, averaging 14.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 2.2 blocks per game.
Prep Hoops Virginia also recognized the redshirt junior as one of the top shooting big men in the state, averaging 64.4 percent from the field and 37.6 percent from beyond the three-point line.
