Pacific Student-Athletes Have Exceptional Spring Semester in the Classroom

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific athletics teams achieved an outstanding 3.28 average team GPA in the spring semester, marking the 14th consecutive semester above the 3.0 mark. Coupled with a 3.31 average team from the fall semester, the Pacific student-athletes had an exceptional academic year.

"We pride ourselves on creating an environment where our student-athletes can choose to thrive academically, athletically, and personally," said Director of Athletics Janet Lucas. "This outstanding group of student-athletes keeps raising the bar as they continue to impress academically and athletically. With over 60 graduates this year, an NCAA Elite 90 award winner, and six Powell scholars in addition to overall academic excellence, we are very proud of the achievements of our motivated and accomplished Pacific student-athletes."

Men's golf had the highest team GPA at 3.67, sweeping the top mark in the department during the year. The golf team had a 3.72 GPA in the fall. Nine of the 10 members of the golf team earned Dean's List honors with a semester GPA of 3.5 or better. Four golfers recorded 4.0 GPAs.

"We are extremely proud of the team's hard work in the classroom and on the golf course," said Head Coach John Cook. "It's rewarding to see them be successful in their projects and exams. At Pacific, student-athletes have opportunities to do amazing things on and off the golf course. For example, we take great pride that Haak [Haakon Mathiesen] was able to run the student investment fund at the Eberhardt School of Business and that Tommy [Thomas O'Rouke] won the Pacific Innovation and Entrepreneurship Summit, in addition to their golf exploits. The student-athletes on our team contributed in many ways to the university, adding value to their Pacific experience."

Men's tennis recorded the second-best team mark at 3.57, followed closely by women's basketball at 3.56. Sixteen of the 17 sports programs had team GPAs over 3.0.

One hundred eighteen undergraduate student-athletes, or 45 percent of the eligible student-athletes, earned Dean's List honors. Softball led the way with 13 Dean's List students, followed by women's soccer, 12; women's swimming, 10; beach volleyball, 10; and baseball, 10.

Forty-one student-athletes earned a 4.0 GPA in the spring semester. Women's soccer had six student-athletes earn a 4.00 GPA to lead all teams.
