Eight Water Polo Players Named to CSC Academic All-District Team

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific men's and women's water polo teams had four student-athletes named to their respective College Sports Communicators (CSC) academic all-district teams.
 
The academic honor recognizes the top student-athletes for their combined performance in the pool and classroom.
 
To qualify for the award, student-athletes must be a starter or key reserve for their team, at least a sophomore in academic standing, have been at their respective institution for at least one full academic year, and have at least a 3.5 cumulative grade-point average.
 
For the women's team, sophomore Hila Futorian, sophomore Addison McGowan, graduate student Lucy Davis and senior Clara Vulpisi all received the honor.
 
Futorian is a mechanical engineering major with a 3.97 cumulative GPA. She leads the Tigers with 91 points, 69 goals and 22 assists. Defensively she's garnered 10 drawn exclusions and 22 steals in her sophomore season. Futorian was the lone Tiger named to the 2023 All-GCC First Team and was named GCC Player of the Week on February 16.
 
McGowan is a health exercise and sports science major with a cumulative 3.90 GPA and is a member of the honors program. McGowan had 22 goals this season and matched Futorian with 10 drawn exclusions. She had 20 steals and an 80 percent sprint win record.
 
Davis received her bachelor's in applied mathematics and her master's in business analytics. She had a cumulative GPA of 3.89 and was on the dean's list every semester throughout her time at Pacific. A co-captain of the women's water polo team, Davis was a leader in and out of the pool. She was third on the team with 68 points, 45 goals and 23 assists. She had seven drawn exclusions, 13 steals and 10 field blocks. She was the Tigers' primary sprinter.
 
Vulpisi graduated this spring with her bachelors in political science with departmental honors. She was a Pacific legal scholars program member, the president of Pacific's Student-Athlete Advisory Council for the past two years, a WCC rep, a DI SAAC rep and a sorority member. Vulpisi was a co-captain of the women's water polo team and a member of the Canadian Olympic team in Tokyo 2021. Vulpisi had 213 saves in her final season and led the Tigers with 39 steals. She was named a 2023 All-GCC Honorable Mention and named to the GCC All-Tournament team.
 
On the men's team, senior Jeremie Cote, sophomore Reuel D'Souza, senior Liam Egan and graduate student Bae Fountain collected the honors.
 
Cote is a business administration major with a focus on finance. He had a cumulative 3.54 GPA in the 2022-23 academic year. A co-captain of the men's water polo team, Cote was named to the All-GCC Second Team and received ACWPC All-American Honorable Mention honors. He was also named to the 2022 ACWPC All-Academic Superior Team. Cote finished the 2022 season third on the Tigers with 76 points, 51 goals, and 25 assists. He had a 65.4 percent shot accuracy. He ended the season with 11 drawn exclusions, 14 steals and two field blocks.
 
D'Souza is a health exercise and sports science major with a 3.69 cumulative GPA. The other co-captain of the Tigers, D'Souza, was named a Peter J. Cutino Award finalist – awarded to the country's top collegiate water polo player. He was named to the All-GCC First Team, the GCC All-Tournament Team, the NCAA All-Tournament Second Team and the ACWPC All-American First Team. He was also named to the 2022 ACWPC All-Academic Superior Team. He was awarded Pacific's Director of Athletics All-Tiger Award. He led the Tigers with 100 points, 54 goals, and 46 assists. D'Souza had eight drawn exclusions, 12 steals and 10 field blocks.
 
Egan is an accounting major with a 3.95 cumulative GPA. He was the winner of the coveted Elite 90 Award. This award is given to the participant with the highest GPA competing in the NCAA tournament. He was named to the 2022 ACWPC All-Academic Outstanding Team. Egan had five goals, five assists and one steal this season.
 
Fountain is working towards his master's in communications and has a 4.0 cumulative GPA. In his undergrad in New Zealand, he had a 3.81 cumulative GPA. Fountain was named the top water polo player in New Zealand following his first year at Pacific. He was named to the 2022 ACWPC All-Academic Outstanding Team and received 2022 ACWPC All-American Honorable Mention accolades. Fountain was named to the GCC All-Conference First Team and led the GCC in saves throughout the 2022 season. He also received Pacific's Newcomer of the Year Award.
 
"I am so proud of each student-athlete," said Head Coach James Graham. "I see day in and day out how hard these men and women work in the pool and at their studies, so to see them recognized for their academic accomplishments is a big deal."
 
The CSC Academic All-American Teams will be announced on June 21 (men's) and June 22 (women's).
