STOCKTON, Calif. – An early lead was insufficient for Pacific baseball (13-31, 5-18) as BYU (22-26, 11-12) took the 9-2 win.
Graduate
Ben Nemivant collected four hits in five at-bats and scored a run. Freshmen
Jake Tandy and
Kaden Petersen both had two hits. Junior
Chaz Myers drove in one run and walked once.
Freshman
Caden Casagrande started the game and pitched 3.2 innings with two strikeouts and two runs allowed on two hits. Freshman
Ryan Martinez pitched the final three innings in relief with two strikeouts while only walking one.
Myers got the scoring started early, as his RBI single brought home Nemivant in the bottom of the first. BYU responded with eight unanswered runs, scoring in the second, fourth and sixth innings to take an 8-1 lead.
Junior
Chase Graves scored on a wild pitch in the eighth inning to bring in the game's second run for Pacific. The Cougars added one more in the ninth. The Tigers got one runner on in the ninth but could not bring the run home.
Pacific is back in action tomorrow. The six seniors on the team will be honored prior to the game. The ceremony will begin at 12:30 p.m. The first pitch will be at 1 p.m.
